New version...
Hallo!
A new version of VisualOberon is out...
Changes in version 981213:
Renamed method Recieve to Receive (finaly :-)). Be sure to get
all the updated packages, which allready include the necessary renaming.
New model, object and demo for displaying readonly text (VOTextViewModel,
OTextView and TextView). Note that VOTextView is rather rudimentary at
the moment, it does support textselection nor horizontal scrolling.
Support for waiting on a file to get available (Using select together
with filehandles). You can now do file IO (like socket actions) while
reacting to GUI events.
Added support for easier generation of SQL statements to the db package
(Look for AddSQLPart...).
There were a number of small additions and bugfixes, too...
IŽve also updated some packages and add a new one named VisualConnect. It
uses a module for using Channel on sockets. It is planed to make this
module part of the oo2c lib, but it may changes its interface slightly
up to then. Of course if someone is interested and has more time than
me, I can happily delegate the remaining work to someone else.
There is some progress in the windows version of oo2c (thanks to
Stewart Greenhill, who wrote a converter from windows.h to WinApi.Mod).
This version seems good enough to start a first port of VO to windows.
Since the interface of VO was designed to be portable but not yet has
prooven to be in reality, this may result in a number of changes in the
API. IŽll inform the mailinglist about progress in the windows version.
In my opinion a windows version of VO would be a major breakthrough so
IŽll try to put as much effort in it as possible. I would also be happy
about any help I can get. For developing under Windows you need oo2c,
the CygWin gcc package (B19 and B20.1 will do), a version of gc
(depending on the cygwin package version), windows (NT would be good,
win95/98 is untested), some patches for oo2c and the WinApi.Mod from
Stewart. If someone is intersted I will give further hints for this
(note that neither WinApi.Mod nor oo2c are yet ready for starting, but
hopefully soon will be).
