RE: ADT Lib (7)

Hallo!

As MvA has told, my computer crashed last week. It does not boot anymore.
I currently have no access to the data on it. This means: I'm currently not
reachable via my homeaddress (rael@edge.ping.de/tim@edge.ping.de). The
VO mailinglist does not work. However no mails are lost. I do not have access
to the VO webside. I do not have access to he current VO sources and thus cannot
make a new distribution using the promissed configure script which would have
made things a lot of easier (exspecially imlib handling). Before the computer
crashed I already planed to by a new mainboard, processor and harddisk and thus
I'm not fully unprepared. However I'm looking for a special board type (Socket 7
100Mhz) which is not yet widly available in Germany. As a result it may
take a while (1-3 weeks) before I'm online again at home. In the mean time
I have subscribed to this list using my job address and thus can participate
again. However I have none of the mails that might have been posted from
Thursday till yesterday. I'm also reachable via this address for VO related
questions however I cannot make a new distribution or over patches.

My job address is: Tim.Teulings@materna.de

One of the first mails was about integration of persistance into VO: This
is no problem. VO at this time has its own baseobject (VOOBject.Object) and
implements persistance itself. However I see no problem to let VOObject.Object
inherit fromt the adt Object class and use the methods for persistance
implemented there deleting the VO persistance code. Implementing persistance
for certain objects of VO itself however can be tricky. As MvA already told
one has to distinguish carefully between static and dynamic data. Also some
objects can potentially change, because of generalisation or future
improvements. Another question is, which objects should be stored? Only
gui objects or also models? How will the linking between objectes loaded
from a file and dyanmically allocated objects handled (object identification)?
E.g. how do I connect a list model to a loaded list object? As always I
will ofer help for anybody doing some persistance stuff on VO. The use of
persistance was one of the features planed right from the beginning.
