I don't see this as much of a problem, as long as this is made
clear as to what needs to be done in the installation instructions.  

Couldn't the gc be kept as a separate tar in the same directory
as the oo2c distribution?  Just to make it more convienient for
those needing it (rather than having to go to another site to get
it).
